Benjamin M. Long

ROCHESTER, NY - Benjamin M. Long, 89, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Barnwell Nursing and Rehab Center in Valatie, NY. Born in Tarentum, PA on November 25, 1925 and was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Gertrude (Mersereau) Long. He served in the US Army 39th Regiment 9th Division from 1944 to 1946 in Europe, attaining the rank of Private First Class.

Benny worked as a mail clerk for the United States Post Office in Rochester for 29 years before retiring. He was an avid golfer. He was a member of the American Legion in Rochester.

Benny is survived by his brother, James D. Long of Colonie; his nephews, Michael (Lynne) Long, Gregory Long, Martin (Sherri) Long, Brian (Sue) Long; his great nephews, Christopher Long, Justin Long, Conner Long, Cameron Long, and Trevor Long. He was predeceased by his brother, Frederick Long.

Interment services with military honors will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Barnwell Nursing and Rehab Center, 3230 Church Street, Valatie, NY 12184 in memory of Benjamin M. Long.
