Listen to Obituary

Barry Dale Strock (Beryl Gadaliah ben Eliyahu HaCohain), age 82, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2026 at Loudonville Assisted Living Residence. Barry was born in Philadelphia, PA to Eli Lee Strock (Z”L) and Jeanne Eisemann Strock (Z”L). He is survived by his wife, Janet Strock and his children Rebekah (Seth) Layton and family (Ariya, Maya, and Zena) and Barak (Sarah) Strock and family and his sister, EssieSharon-Skloff (Harold Z”L). He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Kenneth Strock (Z”L).

Barry’s bigger than life personality led him to many unique adventures all over the world through the Peace Corps as well as taking a year to travel solo around the world in his mid twenties where many friends and connections were made and lasted his entire life, including cousins in Israel Tchia (Dudu) Klinger.

From an early age, Barry was influenced by his father, who instilled in him a deep appreciation for education and intellectual exploration leading him to multiple masters degrees with the purpose to gain tools to think critically, innovate, and make a meaningful difference in the world. He received degrees from Temple University, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Florida. He was on the Board of the Tula Alliance and started a chapter of Amigos de las Americas in Albany, NY.

His entrepreneurship resulted in many small businesses throughout his life. He was most proud of Barry Strock Consulting Associates that he started in 1981. As the owner and operator of Barry Strock Consulting Associates, he successfully managed his own consulting firm for about 40 years.

His dedication, knowledge, and professional expertise were hallmarks of a career built on independence, perseverance, and intellectual achievement. The same energy, determination, and curiosity that characterized his younger years continued to serve him throughout his professional life. He published many articles, led presentations and workshops all over the US. He authored, The Municipal Computer Systems Handbook which he often used as his (large) calling card.

It wasn’t long after starting the consulting business that he and Janet moved to Rensselaerville NY where they enjoyed life in the country with their two children, Rebekah and Barak for about 20 years. In Rensselaerville, he found a place to put down roots, build lasting relationships, and become an integral part of the community he called home. He became a familiar and valued presence in the community, where his interests, experiences, and commitment to those around him helped make Rensselaerville an important chapter in his life.

Barry and Janet moved to Durham NC in 2017 after the birth of Beka’s second child. Barry returned to NY in 2022 with Barak and Sarah’s help for which he enjoyed his last years in the Albany area.

Barry’s connection to New York included years spent on the farm in Nassau, where he developed lasting ties to the area especially those from The Nassau Synagogue. Barry loved listening to Torah discussions at his beloved Nassau Shul, a community which he was proud of and was a prior board member and supporter. He enjoyed Torah study even into his later years, most recently thanks to the Jewish Federation, he connected with Steve Ribner, who visited and studied with Barry.

He took great pride in preserving knowledge, experiences, and memories through his writing and storytelling. His works included sharing his family history through his writings, created to preserve the stories and heritage of generations past for the benefit of future generations. Through his books, writings, and stories, Barry ensured that the lessons, experiences, and memories he valued would continue to be shared long after his passing.

He believed in living his morals and values, loving his family, and making the world a better place. If he could see the world through our eyes, we hope he would know how much he has left an indelible, irreplaceable mark on us all. We are grateful for the gifts, the lessons he gave, and being able to have our lives shaped by his presence as a part of our journey.

Though he will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him, Barry’s legacy will endure through his family, his writings and stories, the knowledge he shared, and the memories he leaves behind.

May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
