Barbara J. Johnson

Deaconess Barbara Johnson passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025 after a brief illness. Barbara was born in Greeleyville, SC on 8/30/1944 to the late Fred and Minnie (Brunson) Boyd.

Deaconess Johnson went to school in Greeleyville, SC before relocating to Troy, NY at a very early age. Barbara was married to the late Dalton Johnson and from that marriage, 3 children were born.

Deaconess Johnson gave her life to Christ at an early age and professed her love for Christ until her death. She was a long time member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church where she served in various capacities including, Vice President of the Deaconess Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Men and Women's Day Committee, Floral Committee and more.

Deaconess Johnson loved gardening, shopping, playing the piano and organ, spending time with her family and singing the hymns of the church. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Stephanie Johnson of Troy, NY, Dalton (Aretha) Johnson, Jr. of California and Debbie (Teddy) Smith of Troy, NY. She also leaves 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Dalton Johnson Sr., her parents, Fred and Minnie (Brunson) Boyd, and her siblings, Janie Franklin, Lizza Mae Sabb, David Boyd and Sarah Matthews along with a host of other relatives.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 9 to 10 A.M. at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 514 7th Ave, Troy, NY with a service to immediately follow.

Burial will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park, 2150 Central Ave, Schenectady, NY 12304 following services.
