Listen to Obituary

Barbara R. Goldman of Schenectady, NY, went home to Jesus on April 24, 2026, at the age of 91.

Barbara was born on July 27, 1934, in Staten Island, NY. At a young age, she moved with her family to Lackawack, NY, where she grew up and lived until she was married. Barbara attended SUNY at Fredonia, where she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education. She met her husband, Ed, while they were both working at the famous Mohonk Mountain House resort in the Catskills. They married on November 12th, 1960, and moved to Schenectady in 1967.

Although she was an elementary school teacher for several years, she spent most of her “first career” being a wonderful mom. After the kids were grown, she attended Regent University and received a Master’s degree in Christian Counseling. In her counseling ministry, she helped many deal with their struggles and strengthen their faith.

Barbara’s love for Jesus and her Christian community was the central part of her life. She served as president of the local Women’s Aglow International chapter for a number of years. She was a member of a prayer group that met for over 45 years and a home church that has been meeting for over 20 years - still going. Barbara’s testimony and gentle persuasion helped bring many to Jesus.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with family and friends - whether for a simple meal or an exciting vacation trip. She loved visits to Acadia National Park and Lake Placid with her children and grandchildren and the annual trip with her prayer group friends. In her later years, she became an avid reader.

She will be greatly missed by her children: Steve Goldman (Suzanne), Susan Scott (Les), Mike Goldman, Dan Goldman; her sister and best friend, Margo Layton; her grandchildren: Rachel Goldman, Rebecca Goldman, Vincent Goldman, Matthew Goldman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Edward Goldman; her parents Howard and Katherine Johnson; her brothers: Alan and Craig Johnson; and her sisters: Carol Denman and Lois Taylor.

Family and friends are welcome to visit starting at 10am on Saturday, May 23, 2026, followed by a memorial service at 11am, at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY 12205.
