August Roland Alexander Jr., 96, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025 with his beloved wife by his side.

Born in Schenectady, New York, on April 14th, 1929, he proudly served in the U.S Army during the Korean Conflict while stationed in Italy. Roland lived a full and rich life, one that left a lasting mark on all who knew him. Known for his sharp wit and mischievous spirit, he delighted in sharing stories, especially tales from his childhood that always came with a sparkle in his eye.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, particularly boating and time spent on the water. Friday night poker games with his brothers and close friends were a cherished tradition, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and lifelong bonds. For Roland, these gatherings were never just about the cards, but about connection and loyalty, values he carried throughout his life.

Above all, Roland loved his family fiercely and without condition. He shared an extraordinary 72-year marriage with his wife, Rose Marie, a partnership rooted in companionship, joy, perseverance, and an unwavering foundation of love. He was incredibly proud and devoted to the family they built together.

Roland was funny, intelligent, and endlessly engaging. He was the patriarch of his family; steady, dependable, and quietly holding everyone together simply by being himself. While his long life was a gift and a blessing, his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Marie Alexander; his brother, Allan (Susan) Alexander; his children, Cheryl Rice, Dana (Na-Deisha) Alexander, Lisa Alexander (Michael), and Donna (Anthony) Gatulik; his grandchildren, Joshua (Amanda), Brandon (Melissa), Nicole (Ryan), Danielle (Marino), Sebastian and August; his seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Roland was predeceased by his parents, August and Vera; his sisters, Eleanor Parks and Vera Monaco; and his brother, David Alexander.

Roland’s legacy lives on through the stories he told, the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the example he set. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A military ceremony will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Dutch Hollow Glendale Nursing Home for the exceptional kindness, care, support, and love shown to him during his stay. Your compassion brought comfort not only to him, but to all who loved him.
