Albany- Arthur J. Payeur, 96, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on May 4, 2017 at The Community Hospice Inn in Albany. Born on July 14, 1920 in Woonsocket, RI, Art was the son of the late Frank and Arthemise (Brissette) Payeur. He served his country honorably and faithfully in the US Navy during World War II. He married Doris DeLong in September of 1945. Together they started their family in Troy. Arthur began working at A&P Bakery in North Albany where he worked for 25 years. He then worked as a Banquet Bartender at the Desmond. It was here that he met many prominent members of society. Art was an avid card player and bowler. He enjoyed spending time with his family and going to the Saratoga Race Track and OTB.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Doris; his beloved children: Arthur F. Payeur, Michael R. (Tina) Payeur and Barbara Pregont; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; his sisters: Doris Daly, Janet (Edward) Knapp, Lorie Fish, and Lucille (Unk) Swartzlander and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his sisters, Theresa Payeur and Anita Dion; his brother Leo Payeur; his granddaughter Stephanie Payeur and his daughter-in-law Nancy Payeur.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday, May 8 at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, May 9 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Our Lady of Angels, Colonie.
