Albany - Arthur Lumpkin, Jr. 85 was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 19, 2018 at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 21, 1932 in Concord, North Carolina, a son of the late Arthur and Lonnie Shinholster Lumpkin. Arthur was a proud veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country from 1953-1955.
Arthur retired in 1995 as a Parking Attendant Supervisor with NYS OGS. He was very devoted to his church of over 20 years at New Jerusalem Home of the Saved. He attended many church functions and for 15 years, he drove the van to pick up members and bring them to church, as well as serving as a Deacon. He was an avid Golfer. Arthur will always be known for the saying, "I won't complain." Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.
Arthur leaves to cherish his memory by his loving wife of 56 years, Clara Lumpkin; sons, Arthur Lumpkin, Melvin Lumpkin and Maurelle Lumpkin; daughters, Shirley Lumpkin, Janet Pickney (Michael), Cassandra Coleman and Angela Lumpkin and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arthur is predeceased by his daughter, Daphne Jean Lumpkin, his parents, Arthur and Lonnie Lumpkin, his brother, S.L Lumpkin and his sister, Daisy Mae Earl.
A home going celebration will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 with calling hour at 10am and service at 11am at New Jerusalem Home of the Saved, 160 Sheridan Ave. Albany, NY, 12210; Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Arthur's name to his church.
