LATHAM – Arlene M. Mosher, 87, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on October 3, 2026 at Albany Medical Center.
She was born in Troy on March 28, 1939, daughter of the late Arthur and Veronica (Harris) Salway.
Arlene met the love of her life, her “Tweety”, Robert, in high school and they were married on August 8, 1959 at St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park. When Bob passed away 4 months ago, her heart broke.
She worked in retail for various establishments in the area for several years, but Arlene’s greatest joy was being a homemaker caring for her husband and sons. She was active in the lives of her children and their activities, including over 50 years in the Boy Scouts, as troop leader, receiving the title Honorary Eagle Scout.
Arlene was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Latham. She enjoyed the bus trips, picnics and social events by being a member of the Latham Women’s Club; Colonie Elks, Colonie Seniors, and notably, The Red Hat Society.
Arlene remained active right up till she couldn’t. She loved showering her grandchildren and great grandchildren with gifts, attended their weddings, parties, anything she was invited to. She was deeply devoted to her family and her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; her son Steven; siblings, Dorothy Higgitt-Horton, William and Robert Salway, Arthur Salway, Jr., Brian Salway, Gordon Salway, and Joanne Whitney Mason.
Arlene is survived by her son, Ronald (dec. Carolyn); her daughter in law, friend and caregiver, Caryl; five grandchildren, Amanda, Daniel, Robyn, Seth and Sean, four great granddaughters; her siblings, Thomas (Marian) Salway, Grace Graziane (James), Warren Whitney as well as many nieces and nephews. Left to mourn is her lifelong best friend, Deanna Cioffi.
Caryl would like to extend a special thanks to her favorite aide, Karen, to Marcy, RN, and her team from Visiting Nurses for the care, devotion and compassion shown to Arlene over the past two years, and her neighbors, Ken and Eileen for always having eyes on her. Thank you to Chuck and Dolly, ICU nurses at AMC, for being with Arlene as her earthly journey came to an end.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm with a funeral service to immediately follow at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gateway House of Peace, 479 Rowland Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
