Troy- Antoinette V. Peer, passed away on November 20, 2024, at Van Rensselaer Manor, surrounded by family. She was born in Albany, New York to Anthony and Margaret Virgilio.
She was predeceased by husband James E. Peer, her son Jamie Peer, grandson Christopher Schmidt and sons-in-laws Ward Melvin and Brent Breedlove. She also was predeceased by her sister Marjorie (Harold) Kriechbaum and brother Joseph (Marion) Virgilio.
Antoinette is survived by her six children, Peter (Lori) Peer, Heidi Breedlove, Martin Peer, Gretchen (Edward) Kurdziel, Kristina (Donald) Lamm, Kees Peer and two stepdaughters Catherine (Harold) Schmidt and Carol Lee Melvin. She leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
She valued education and attended St. James Institute, Cathedral Academy, Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Schenectady Community College, SUNY external degree program for her R.N.
She was employed by New York Telephone and then St. Clares Hospital as a pediatric nurse. Antoinette loved children and loved hearing them call her "Toni". She later served as a nanny for many Capital District families.
Antoinette was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church. She and her husband volunteered for Habitat For Humanity, Christian Appalachian Project and were campground hosts for Smoky Mountain NP.
She loved to travel and planned family reunions for many years. With her family spread across the country she would travel and vacation with them. In her lifetime she visited all fifty states and the Holy Land. Her hobbies included reading, writing, singing and sewing.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the compassionate care at Van Rensselaer Manor. A special shoutout to the staff in Units C3 and A1.
Services will be held in the spring of 2025 and a notice will be sent out at that time.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 49 Killian Park, Colonie, New York 12205 or to Habitat for Humanity.
