Listen to Obituary

Andrea Lee Kelsey, of Altamont, New York, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, with her loving son, Charlie, and her beloved brother, Chris, by her side.

Andrea was born on December 16, 1958, in Penfield, New York, the daughter of the late Clement W. and Josephine D. Kelsey. She graduated from Penfield Senior High School in 1977 and went on to attend St. John Fisher College, where her mother worked as a librarian. Andrea earned her degree from Fisher in just three years. She then moved to Albany, NY, to pursue her law degree at Albany Law School.

Not long after arriving in Albany, Andrea took a part-time job at Harpo’s Pub, where she met Charles (“Chuck”) Hunt, who would later become her partner for many years. Soon after, they had a son Charlie and moved to a house in Altamont. Andrea was so very proud of Charlie, especially watching him become a husband to Jeanna Larsen Hunt, and a great father to Leighton.

Andrea quickly became part of Chuck’s family. She especially treasured time spent with Anne and Peter Baumann, Timothy Hunt and Peter Rehonis, Judy Coburn (and the late Warren Coburn), Penelope Hunt Macias and Leo Macias, Danny and Dora Hunt, Jennifer Baumann and Alexandros Asimakopoulos,Lindsey and Sean McCarthy and all of their children. Among her favorite traditions were hosting the annual “Apple Picking” weekend and Christmas Day dinners, which brought everyonetogether year after year.

Andrea loved cooking and experimenting with new recipes. She enjoyed gardening and growing fresh herbs. She perfected Mrs. MacNally’s famous sugar cookies — a multi-day labor of love, which were eaten at record speed by anyone who was lucky enough to get some. Andrea had a passion for finding a good bargain, especially furniture and décor for her home and outside porch. Andrea also loved her dog, Stella, and all of the pets she had throughout the years; there is no doubt that her furry family will be happy to be reunited with her.

One of Andrea’s greatest joys was spending time with her granddaughter, Leighton, who was the light of her life. Nothing brought Andrea more happiness than spending time with Leighton and watching her grow.

Professionally, Andrea built a long and respected career as a Matrimonial and Family Law attorney in the Guilderland area. As a partner at Young, Kelsey, Brown & Strippoli, P.C., she represented hundreds of clients with compassion and determination during some of the most challenging times of their lives. Known for being both a zealous advocate and a deeply caring attorney, Andrea earned the respect of her clients, colleagues, and judges. She was also a loyal and cherished friend and mentor to her law partners and co-workers.

One of Andrea’s greatest gifts was her unwavering optimism. Even in the face of ongoing health challenges, she stayed positive, resilient and kept on smiling and laughing. She had a rare ability to find joy in the simple things, and to share that joy with those around her.

Andrea is survived by her son, Charlie Hunt and his Wife, Jeanna Larsen Hunt; her brother, Christopher P. Kelsey; and her beloved granddaughter, Leighton; Anne and Peter Baumann, Timothy Hunt and Peter Rehonis, Judy Coburn (and the late Warren Coburn), Penelope Hunt Macias and Leo Macias, Danny and Dora Hunt, Jennifer Baumann and Alexandros Asimakopoulos, Lindsey and Sean McCarthy and all of their children. She will also be greatly missed by her dear friends, Jessica, Mary and Lisa.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Albany Medical Center and the New York Center for Oncology and Hematology for their dedicated and compassionate care over the years. If you wish to make a donation in Andrea’s memory, in light of her love of animals the family has chosen the Hudson Mohawk Humane Society. A celebration of Andrea’s life will be held at a later date.
