Listen to Obituary

Alma Jean Salerno (Partridge), age 88, passed peacefully on October 27, 2026, after a brief illness.

Born June 20, 1938, in Smyrna, New York, Jean grew up in central New York with her six siblings and graduated from Sherburne-Earlville High School.

On July 13, 1963, Jean married the love of her life, Anthony Joseph Salerno (Tony), and they eventually settled in Canastota, NY where they raised their family and lived for more than 40 years. Jean leaves behind her 3 children, Joe Salerno (Missy) of Portsmouth, RI, Al Salerno (Anne) of Cohoes, NY and Lisa Brown (Joe) of Castorland, NY as well as 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, ThomasPartridge. Jean is pre-deceased by her husband Tony, her parents George Howard Partridge and Gunhild Alma Partridge, and her siblings Reginald Crowell, Edwin Crowell, James Crowell, Irwin Crowell II, and Marjorie (Crowell) Wescott.

Jean began her working career in the banking industry. She heldvarious positions, including that of Branch Manager, before becoming the Deputy Clerk Treasurer for the Village of Canastota; the position from which she retired after more than 20 years of service.

Jean enjoyed reading, playing cards, knitting, and spending time with family. Throughout the years, she and her husband Tony spent time exploring the country. Some of their most memorable trips include traveling to Disney World with their granddaughters; spending time in the Adirondacks with their grandson; taking long car trips to see family on the eastern seaboard; chasing roadrunners in the deserts of southern California; spending time in Nashville and Las Vegas andvisiting the Grand Canyon. Their infamous trip to Hawaii, where Tony somehow convinced Jean to take a helicopter ride into a volcano, is a story that is still talked about today.

A very special thank you to the amazing team at Schenectady County Glendale Home who made Alma’s final years safe, comfortable, and memorable. You hold a special place in our hearts as honorary members of the “Salerno Family.”
