WESTMERE__Alice May (Vanasse) Nolan, 92, of Westmere and Cocoa Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. Alice was born on December 25, 1922, in Holden, Massachusetts, to Alfred Vanasse and Mae Fontaine.
Alice was the most amazing mother to her five children and a devoted wife. She was instrumental in establishing Westmere Beverage, the first of the family's businesses. After her children had grown, she worked with her husband and family in the family business at Thruway Beverages. She loved talking to customers and working alongside her family. Alice and Ed enjoyed spending winters in Cocoa Beach, going out to dinner and day trips to the casino. Every Sunday, the family would gather for dinner at their home in Westmere.
Predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Alice is survived by her five children, Edward J. Nolan, Jr. (Susan) of North Greenbush, Alan Nolan (Agnes) of Saratoga Springs, Patricia Hite (Robert) of Menands, Michael Nolan (Sherian) of Malta and Anne-Marie Nash (Michael) of Westmere. In addition, she is survived by eight grandchildren, Sarah Nolan-Tice (Tim), Alicia Fuse (John), Adam Nolan (Mandy), Robert Hite (Kelly), Michael Hite (Gabriela), Alexandra Hite, Jack Nash and Parker Nash, and 3 great-grandchildren. Alice was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, Brigid Nolan. The family would like to extend special thanks to Lisa Field, Alice's caregiver and friend, who brought joy and security to Alice and her family for the last year. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Christ The King Church, 20 Sumter Ave. in Westmere. Interment will follow the Mass in the mausoleum at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. At the request of the family, memorial donations may be made in Alice's memory to the Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
