SARATOGA-Alice Bartley Hayes, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 27, 2017.
Born November 13, 1922 to Walter and Nettie Bartley in Astoria, NY.
She graduated from Bishop McDonnell's Memorial High School in Brooklyn, NY and Berkley Business College at Grand Central's Graybar Building which is in NYC.
She worked for Batten, Barton, Durstine & Osborn Advertising Firm, The Bank For Savings, Sperry Gyroscope and Grocery Manufacturers of NY.
She married Joseph T. Hayes of Hoosick Falls, NY on February 9, 1943 at The Church of Immaculate Conception in Astoria, NY.
During the war, Joe was stationed as an Army Staff Sergeant at Camp Pickett, VA, Alice joined him living in Blackstone, VA and worked as a secretary to Camp Pickett's General Hospital's Registrar. After the war, they lived in Hoosick Falls, NY for a short time before they relocated to Glens Falls, NY, which they made their home for 52 years, and where they raised their 4 children together.
Alice worked for a few years as a Telephone Operator at the NY Telephone Company in Glens Falls and for 15 years at Sears Roebuck Company in the Auditing Dept. She spent the last 15 years living at Prestwick Chase in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Alice was predeceased by her husband, Joe, in 1995, her parents, younger brother, Walter T. Bartley. She was also predeceased by 2 grandsons, Jeremy D. Hayes in 2004, and James Bartley Hanley in August 2017.
She is survived by her children, Thomas J. Hayes (Jackie), of Gulf Breeze, FL., Cathleen Hayes DeLuke (Bruce) of New Symrna Beach, Fl. and Lake Luzerne, NY, J. Timothy Hayes (Linda) of Ballston Spa, NY. and Teresa Hayes Hanley (Jim) of Niskayuna, NY; grandchildren, Stacy, Patrick, Michael, Meighan, Kevin, Carrie, Devon, Kate, Owen and Liam and 2 step-grandchildren Kelli and Shawn and 16 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a very special niece, Jackie Hayes McDonnell and her husband Jack of Mclean, VA.
Calling hours will be Monday, October 2, 2017 from 5:00pm- 7:00pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 11:00am at Teresian House, 200 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12203. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hoosick Falls, NY.
