Alfreda Hatfield, a beloved figure to many, passed away on September 12, 2025, in her hometown of Albany, NY, at the age of 93. Born on July 16, 1932, in Albany, she lived a life rich with love and laughter, embodying a spirit that touched everyone who knew her.
For many years, Alfreda found fulfillment and joy in her work as a meat wrapper at Price Chopper, where she was a dedicated employee known for her strong work ethic. Her career also included stints at Grand Cash, Trading Port, and Star Market, places where her warm nature left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Alfreda’s greatest pride came from her family. She flourished in her role as a grandmother, cherishing the special bond she shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her life was a tapestry woven with wonderful memories, from playing family card games and dominoes to delightful camping trips filled with adventure and shared laughter. Alfreda’s nurturing demeanor and generous heart made her not just a grandmother but an amazing "Granny," who supported her family unconditionally and brought them closer together.
Alfreda had a personality that radiated warmth—she was loving, patient, forgiving, and always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand. Blessed with a great sense of humor, she brought joy to those around her, always managing to find the light even in the darker moments. Her interests were as diverse as they were engaging; she found immense joy in reading, feeding animals, and tending to her garden, all while sharing her unabashed love for Elvis.
Alfreda is survived by her loving family: her sons Harold (Donna) Hatfield Sr. and Richard Hatfield Sr.; her stepdaughter Colleen (Stephen) Bailey and stepson Lee Hatfield Jr.; along with her cherished grandchildren and their significant others, Rebecca Hatfield, Harold Hatfield Jr., George Hatfield, Richard Hatfield III, Donna (Cory) Bennett, and Michael Hatfield. Her legacy continues through her treasured great-grandchildren, Alison (Quintin) Jones, Cody, Noah, Brooke, Jacob, Mandy, Raelyn, Mason, Emily, Jackson, Belle, Logan, and her great-great-granddaughter Mackenzie "Bean" Jones. Alfreda is also survived by her sister, Marge Hildenbrandt. Beloved friends and Neighbors especially, Kay.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rene Sr. and Nellie Charlebois, her spouse Lee Hatfield Sr., her daughter-in-law Sally Hatfield, her sister Pauline Peart, and her brother Rene Charlebois Jr.
The memory of Alfreda Hatfield will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her life was brilliantly lived—filled with kindness, humor, support, and unwavering love. Visitation will be held on September 17, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life on September 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM, both taking place at New Comer Cremations & Funerals in Colonie, NY.
