Robert D. Dwyer, Jr.
1954 - 2023

COLONIE - Robert D. Dwyer Jr., 68, passed away following a short illness on May 27th, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

Robert was born on August 4th, 1954, to the late Robert Sr. and Marie Dwyer in Albany, NY. The first of three, he made sure to test the boundaries. Growing up he enjoyed riding his horse, Thunder, and he learned to become an avid hunter with his uncles. He was a graduate of Colonie Central High School. In his youth, he rode his motorcycle and spent time outdoors with family and friends. These friends would become lifelong companions. Robert was a man of many names. He was known as Bobby to family, Bob, Dewey, and Dupot to friends, and undoubtedly other nicknames unfit for print.

When his son Kyle was born, Robert’s proudest title became dad. He sacrificed to raise his son and drove a tractor trailer for Gourmet Award Foods for nearly 30 years. Unbeknownst to the company, he snuck his son into the cab for a few ride-alongs, especially when delivering or picking up from the cookie factory. He was not a sports fan, but he would practice baseball with his son and attend games on the weekends. Many summers were spent at lakes boating and camping, and winters snowmobiling and riding ATVs. The shoulder season, autumn, he devoted to his love of deer hunting.

Robert was not one to stay up to date with his annual check-ups, so for this last one he caught up with all the doctors at once. He was the nurses’ favorite patient, always talking of riding his motorcycle or offering a twenty-dollar bill to friends or family to break him out. He was brave and did not suffer, making a quick exit from this world with his “lion hair” intact.

He is survived by his beloved son Kyle Dwyer (Katelyn), his loving sisters Kathleen Cranker (Joseph) and Linda Denegar (Craig), the mother of his son Christine Dwyer, mother-in-law Connie Favata, brother-in-law Daniel Favata, sister-in-law Shannon Parsons (Jason), nieces April Cranker (Jeffrey Trifiletti) and Shameaka Crawford, nephew Joseph Cranker, aunts Patricia Bearder (Rudolph) and Joan Murphy, and many cousins and cherished friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17th at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie, NY. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 13th.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the beautiful Nancy Dowd Hospice Home for the exceptional care they provided during his final days. Alternatively, donations to Stand Up To Cancer can help fund promising research. If you are like Robert and save your pennies and paper plates, we ask that in his honor you enjoy summer surrounded by loved ones with a cold, raspberry Twisted Tea in hand.
