Filippo Paonessa, 80, passed away on March 23, 2023 at St.Peter’s Hospital. He was born November 25, 1942 in Gimigliano, Catanzaro, Italy, he was the son of the late Francesco and Maria Constantina (Rotella) Paonessa.

Filippo immigrated to the United States with his wife, Maria, in 1963. He worked as a mason and enjoyed hunting with his sons and crafting wine every year to enjoy with his family. You could often find him in his garden enjoying the fruits of his labor. Despite his tough exterior, Filippo worked tirelessly to support his family and friends through his kindness, generosity, and fantastic sense of humor.

Filippo is survived by his loving wife, Maria; children, Rose Zinnershine (David), Lisa Paonessa (Michael Mazuryk), Frank Paonessa (Angela), Teresa Pangburn (Brian) and Tony Paonessa (Nicole); grandchildren, Felicia Burchett (Tony), Ashley Fiore (Vito), Lauren Zinnershine, Juliana Speno (Jake Koch), Silvana DePalma (Christopher), Dominic Paonessa (Taylor Smiley), Santina Coffey-Shade (William), William Philip Zinnershine (Caelan) and Cienzo Paonessa; great-grandchildren, Boss Burchett, Chance Burchett, Axl Burchett, Sophia Burchett, Landon Fiore, Luke Fiore, and Gianni Coffey-Shade; siblings, Salvatore Paonessa (Kim), Nina Clas, Maria Kolber, Tommaso Paonessa (Laura), Angela Paonessa (Frank) and Rosa Stalteri (Vince); and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 10AM to 12PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189, with a service to follow at 12PM.
