1927 - 2022

Yolanda Cavalieri (nee: Portanova) of Albany, passed away suddenly on September 13, 2022, at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, five days short of her 95th birthday. She was born in Jersey Shore, PA, and was the daughter of the late Lucido and Philomena Florimonte Portanova.

Predeceased in death by husband, Alfredo F. Cavalieri; son, Joseph M. Cavalieri; sisters, Mary L. Rossi and Virginia P. Albert; and brothers, Arthur M. Portanova, Anthony F. Portanova and Vito Portanova.

Yolanda, also known as Lundy, loved to sing and dance, and was known to sing with her husband’s dance bands. She graduated from Albany High School in 1945. She worked for many years at Ford’s Tavern in Albany as Office Manager, and also as a waitress. In 1976, she graduated from Albany Educational Opportunities Center @ SUNY. She then worked for the New York State Senate until her retirement in 1992. She also volunteered as an Ambassador at the Albany International Airport for many years, and she was a member of the Swingtime Jazz Society.

Yolanda is survived by her daughter, Elissa M. (Kevin) O’Reilly of Selkirk, NY; and son, Michael (Patrice) Cavalieri of Voorheesville, NY; she is the mother-in-law of Barbara Cavalieri of Attleboro Falls, MA. She is the grandmother Denice, Joseph, Timothy, Michael (Carol) Michaniw, Jill (Andy) Haskell, Leslie (Tim) Hanley, Michelle (Adam) Katz, Rebecca Cavalieri, Lea Cavalieri; great-grandmother to Haleigh Michaniw, Abigail Race, Daylin Derosier, Micah Ceremuga, Ellie & Ethan Katz, Julianna Cavalieri, Ava, Reagan, Collin, and Tessa Hanley, Jocelyn Haskell; and great-great grandmother to Easton Pickett.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, especially the Red Unit, where Mom was treated just wonderfully.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm, at Newcomer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie NY 12205. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 11:00am, with interment to follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, 1389 Central Ave., Colonie NY 12205.
