Barbara Jean Pierce Life story video
BURNT HILLS – Barbara Jean Pierce, 76, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 2nd after a brave battle with Lewy Body Dementia, surrounded by the love of her daughter and precious cat, Margaret in the comfort of her own home.

Barbara was born in Niskayuna to the late Warren and Rena Wielt. She graduated from Niskayuna High School in 1964 and went on to Hudson Valley Community College where she earned her business Associates Degree. After graduation, in 1966 she went to work at Schenectady Chemical’s Research Center until 1972, when she took a leave of absence to become a mom and revel in the joys of motherhood. Later in life, she worked for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District as the principal’s secretary at Charlton Heights Elementary School where she retired from in 2008.

Barbara’s favorite pastimes were shopping, spending time with family and friends, becoming a grandmother and eventually a doting cat mom. She attended weekly dinners and monthly luncheons with co-workers and friends. Family dinners became a great source of joy and happiness in her later years. She also enjoyed being a member of Proctor’s Theater where she enjoyed attending many incredible shows with her best friend, Ginny. Barbara lived in a great neighborhood where she gained many close friends. Her family and friends will remember her for her amazing heart, her willingness to always help someone who needed it and her beautiful spirit.

Barbara was recently predeceased by her most precious brother, Dennis Wielt.

She is survived by her adoring daughter, Jody Dayter; her extra son, Dain Donovan; her son Jason (Kay) Pierce; her grandchildren, Damien and Abigail Dayter and John and Shannon Pierce; her loving support system, Marlin Pierce and Nancy Rexford; many loving extended family members; a niece and soon to be nephew.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 10:00am to 12:00pm with a memorial service to immediately follow at 12:00pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in the hopes that one day soon, a cure can be found for this awful disease or to Community Hospice, a truly incredible organization that brought such comfort in a really difficult time.
