In Memory Of
Lillian D. Sahl
1939 - 2022

Lillian Dorothea Sahl was born on October 18, 1939, in Queens, New York. She was a 1957 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls, New York.
Lil began her lifelong, dedicated and highly respected, career in the Insurance Industry, at the Glens Falls Insurance Company. She served the company for 20 years mainly as an Underwriter. It was there that she trained many college graduates in her trade. She relocated to a private business in Kingston, and then finally, to two other companies in the Schenectady area before retiring.

She was extremely generous to both family and friends. She was a ‘mother’ to all and everyone knew and loved “Aunt Lily”, or as some nieces and nephews called her, “Uncle Willy”. She cherished friendships and valued private moments spent. Her loyalty to each and every individual could never be tested. She was always trustworthy and she never passed judgement. Hers was a life of giving and loving beyond compare.
Be it known though, that hidden behind the façade of this prim and proper woman, there did lie a bit of a wild side. She was always ready for a hearty laugh, a rousing game of pinochle, a fragrant glass of wine, or to share her pack of cigarettes! Although her desire to own a red Corvette never came to fruition, she did manage to sport a Dodge Demon and own a fun VW Bug!

She loved to bowl and was on many leagues. She was an active member of The Insurance Women’s League. Lillian was a devout Catholic and a faithful Parishoner of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Schenectady, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Just like the flower, Lily left behind a garden of many blossoms. We will all treasure her quiet inner beauty, and each of us will measure her effects on us forevermore!

Lillian is predeceased by her mother Lillian M.(Laronde) Sahl (1986), her father Herman F. Sahl (1991), and her brother Charles O. (Patricia) Sahl ( (2020) of Petaluma, CA.

She is survived by her sisters Nancy (Stephen) Hull of Macon, Georgia, Janet (Richard) Kobor Charleston, SC, Marie (John) Hanley Delmar, NY, Suzanne Jackett, Charleston, SC, and Pamela Quimby, Baldwinsville, NY, her brother Joseph (Kathleen) Sahl of Mongomery, NY, and a multitude of nieces and nephews, including both grands and greats!

The family would like to thank the staff of Schenectady Nursing and Rehab for the gentle care given to our sister. We would also like to extend a special thanks to Lois Berger, who spent the last five years faithfully visiting her after the death of her own mother.

Anyone wishing to donate in Lil’s memory is asked to give to the charity of their choice.

There will be a graveside service, celebrating the goodness of Lillian’s life, on August 26, at 11:00 a.m, at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Schenectady, NY.
