Born in Germany, she came to the United States in 1948 to marry her late husband, John Leuchten, and raise their four children in Colonie, NY.
Known as Mom, Oma, Uroma, and Tante Ilse, she loved gathering with family and her many friends. In addition, she enjoyed bowling, walking in the park, and volunteering for a variety of community services such as organizing yard sales, delivering communion to the homebound, and working as an Ambassador at the Albany International Airport. She was an avid pinochle and Yahtzee player and a accomplished knitter, recognized for her original hand-knitted Christmas stockings.
She worked as a computer operator, employed by Albany Savings Bank and the New York State Nurses Association. One of her greatest joys was teaching German for many years at the Village of Colonie Thunder Road Senior Center. She was also a member of the Guilderland Elks Ladies Auxiliary.
Ilse was predeceased by her loving husband in 1994.
Ilse is survived by her Children; Rosemarie Leuchten of Colonie ,NY, Helen Leuchten Sisk of Nahant, MA, Kurt (Mary) Leuchten of Poughkeepsie NY, and Carl (Jodi) Leuchten of Saratoga Springs, NY. Grandchildren: Scott (Lisa) Leuchten, Christopher (Cory) Leuchten, Donna (Joey) Nuccio, Mark Leuchten and John Leuchten. Cherished Great-Grandchildren: Rohan, Aidan, Elise, Molly, and Maxwell, and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Germany.
The family is grateful for the care and kindness given to Ilse by the St. Peter’s Hospital staff.
