I am simply without words to express how upsetting this is. She was such a wonderful human being, never fail to help out those in need. We, as a family, shared amazing times both in Slingerlands and in Bodrum. We are in shock and deep sorrow. We will miss you so much Betsy. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

We are so shocked by the news. I had recently emailed Betsy to tell her how much fun we had eating at our favorite restaurant in Bodrum -- Kismet. When I didn't hear back, I knew that something was wrong, and we are terribly saddened to see this news. Betsy was such a kind-hearted, amazing person who was so generous with her time. She loved her family so much. We shared many great memories in Slingerlands and Bodrum. Betsy was a great mentor, always sharing the best tips on how to navigate the Bethlehem schools. I remember fondly how she came with my daughter and me and showed us around BCMS. It was such fun. That is a perfect example of Betsy's selflessness and generosity. You will be missed so much Betsy! Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

Betsy Gumustop was my first PhD student at Binghamton University. She
defended her dissertation in 1997. I believed then, and still do,
that I learned at least as much from her as she did from me.
She was one of our top graduate students, a generous classmate, and an
excellent department citizen.
She was loved by faculty, fellow graduate students, and her own
undergraduate students. We all will miss her.
My deepest sympathy to her family.

We have fond memories of the great couple you made in Cooperstown! Betsy was bright and kind and thoughtful, and we remember her organizing a dinner at Bellini's when we first moved to Albany. We admired Betsy and are sad to hear of her death. Thinking of you, Anne and Joe B

Our fondest memories of Betsy were sitting in bleachers watching our kids athletics games / chess club matches. Laughing, cheering, and rooting them on left us with memories of Betsy where she was always proud, happy and demonstrated her vibrant (and competitive) spirit!
Betsy was "one of those" leaders in our community who made every aspect of the community better.
The Klugman Family sends our thoughts and prayers and we celebrate a life well-lived!
Respectfully!... and Gratefully to have had the opportunity and privilege to know her!

There’s nothing harder to bear than what your family is going through now. Our deepest sympathy to you all. Betsy was so much a part of those early years in Niskayuna when the children were young, that I cannot separate those memories without thinking of her. She brings a smile to my face even now. She will be missed by many.

I am a colleague of Betsy's father Richard (Dick) Stearns. (We are both Emeritus Professors at UAlbany.) I first met Elizabeth (Betsy) in 1986 when I was invited to their house for Dick's 50th birthday. Betsy was in high school then. Subsequently, I met Betsy on several occasions (e.g., Dick & Charlotte's 50th Wedding Anniversary, Dick's 80th birthday in 2016). She was always very cheerful and kind.
I want to convey my heartfelt condolences to Betsy's parents Dick & Charlotte, Betsy's husband Dr. Bora Gumustop and their children,
Betsy's brother Chris and his family. May God give all of you enough strength to bear this loss.
