West Sand Lake- Virginia M. VanWormer, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 5, 2021. Born in Chateaugay, NY she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mildred Cowan. Virginia is predeceased by her husband John L. VanWormer.

Virginia worked at as registered nurse at Albany Memorial Hospital from graduation until retiring in 1995. She continued to volunteer at the hospital following her retirement. Virginia also volunteered with the Sand Lake Ambulance for many years while residing in West Sand Lake. She was also a member of the Calvary Methodist Church in Latham.

She is survived by her daughter Karen Blair (Ron) of Latham.

She will also be missed by her grandchildren; Whitney Daigler (John), Michael Miadzielec, David Bonesteel (Kristen Wait), Angie Galea (Greg), Brandi Pippero (Larry) and Cole VanWormer; great grandchildren; Matthew ,Andrew and Adam Daigler (Skye) , Morgan and Meaghan Miadzielec, Hailey, Amber and Abigail Pippero and Dylan Galea. She is also survived by her siblings; Irwin Cowan and Earl Cowan and many nieces’ nephews and other relatives.

Virginia is predeceased by her siblings; Vera Ives (Wes), Lawrence Cowan (Norma), Wayne Cowan (Beverly), Alvin Cowan and Glen Cowan (Marie)

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at Millview Assisted Living Facility in Latham and the Van Rensselaer Manor especially the girls on B-3 for the love and care given to Virginia and her family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Virginia’s name.
