Albany-

Robert Lee Owens, 66, died November 24, 2020.

Robert Lee Owens was born in Newburgh, New York, to the late Robert Henry Owens and Gertrude Virginia Owens. As a kid, Robert was known as “Bob.” He attended Newburgh City School District schools and spent 15 years residing in Detroit, Michigan with his beloved sister Ruthie.

In the 1980’s, Robert relocated to the Upstate New York/Troy Area, where he met his wife, the love of his life, Clara Ann Owens. He was instantly swept off his feet, they were married shortly after and spent 31 years together. Robert loved his wife, often referring to her as “My Wife,” “Honey” and in his later day “Touchie.” There was never a dull moment in the Owens household. Family was everything to Robert and he made sure he took care of his wife and eight stepchildren.

Robert loved music and fishing, the holidays, cooking, but most importantly, he loved his family. Every chance he got, he went fishing with his fishing buddies or hung out in front of his house listening to all of his favorite songs. Robert was a social butterfly, folks from near and far would travel to visit with him, dance and jam out to his carefully constructed playlist, while they sat until the wee hours of the night, enjoying life and reminiscing.

Over the years Robert inherited meaningful names like “Black Bob,” “Captain Black” and “Black.” Robert was loved by many and he will truly be missed.

Robert is predeceased by his father, Robert Lee Owens and his Mother, Gertrude Virginia Owens. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 31 years, Clara Ann Owens; eight stepchildren, Curtis Thomas, Elanda Thomas, Andre Thomas, Deeneesha Philpot, Darlena Philpot, Jeffrey Philpot, Jannie Ely and Shaneena Philpot; Siblings, Ronald Baldwin, Daniel Owens, Douglas Dunbar, Ruthie Williams, Joann Mann, Geraldine Gibson, Christine Owens, Anetta Owens, and Laurie Conley, 37 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
