Deacon Jacob J. Shepard, Jr. 61 of Schenectady went home to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Monday, December 23, 2019.

He was born in Wetumpka, AL on December 5, 1958 a son of Jacob J. and Alice (Benson) Shepard, Sr.

Jacob was a graduate of Albany High School in 1977 before pursuing a higher education at Union College. He then joined the United States Marine Corps, which he proudly served until his Honorable Discharge in 1986.

Following the military, Jacob was employed at General Electric in the Silicone Manufacturing facility. He later worked at Sears and U-Haul before venturing out to open his own business in 2001, as a contractor.

Jacob was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He also loved to be in the presence of his Lord by serving as a Deacon at the New Bethel Church of God in Christ located in Schenectady.

Jacob is preceded in death by 3 siblings, Fannie McCall, Dorothy Shepard and Jack Shepard.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Celaine (Roberts) Shepard; 7 children: Demone, Dontae, Shantell, Jaseim, Jahmeen, Fatima Shepard and Korazundra Roberts.

He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 3 brothers, James, Jerry and John Shepard and several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and God-children; a special nephew Demond Shepard; two special brothers, Ali Townsend, Leroy E. Strickland; and two special cousins, Tracey Birmingham, Qurana Anderson.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Celebration of Deacon Jacob’s Life to immediately follow at 6:00 pm at the New Bethel Church of God in Christ, 2020 Broadway Schenectady. The Committal service will be held at 11:00 am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
