Watervliet- Sidney H. Ennis passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 2, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. He was 81 years old.
The son of the late Charles and Lillian (Dufur) Ennis, Sid was born on May 28, 1933 in Albany, NY. His early life was spent on many adventures with his brothers and cousins in Castleton, NY. His first job as a boy was at Gould’s Apple Orchard where he had many fond memories. From there, he worked for Fort Orange Paper Mill; and for many years he worked for H.V. Rector Construction as a member of the Local 117 Carpenter’s Union. In his later years, he worked for Castleton Elementary School where he made many lasting friendships.
Sid was a man of many talents and had many hobbies, which included woodworking, golf (2 holes-in-one), gardening, playing games, traveling and long Sunday drives. He was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church where he served as both deacon and elder. He was a past member of the East Greenbush Elks.
Sid was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His greatest love was spending time with his family. His gentle and loving manner will be greatly missed.
Sid is survived by his wife of 30 years Lois (Alston) at home; his children: Steven (Debbie) Ennis, Lorie (Walter) Ennis-Pikula, Wendy (David) Ashline and Colleen (Bill) Chatterton; his step-children: General Donald (Ana) Alston, Timothy (Mary) Alston, Mary (Dan) Hammond; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his brother Raymond Ennis; his sister Lillian Adams and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings: Marvin, William, Earl, Margaret, Ruth, and Janette and his life-long friends Donald and Dora Jorgenson.
Memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, March 6, 2015 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 pm following the visitation. Burial will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Sidney’s name to the St. Peter’s Hospital Cardiac Unit, 315 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
