He was the son of Leona Smith and the late Egbert A. Smith Sr. of St. Croix, USVI He was also predeceased by his brothers: Anthony Smith Sr. and Olaf Smith Sr.; and his son, Miguel M. Velazquez.
Roy served in the US Army as an Infantryman and was Honorably Discharged.
He was a Master Mechanic and transmission specialist. He loved fixing cars wherever his was. He also enjoyed fishing.
Roy is survived by his son, Roy Jr. (Starletta), his daughter, LaTasha Smith, five grandchildren: Rodney, Justin, Taria, Angeles and Noelani; five brothers: Egbert, Mark (Cheryl), Offley, David and Kenneth; three sisters: Denise (Kevin), Loraine and Bernice (Anthony). Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends and a special family friend, Tim “Under” Sankey.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his calling hours on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 10-12 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189. A service will follow at 12 Noon.
Interment with full military honors will follow promptly at 2 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
