ALBANY Joan C. (Hinckley) Kirchner (86) of Loudonville, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2017. She was predeceased by her devoted and loving husband of 55 years, Robert F. Kirchner Sr. Joan was a loving and dedicated wife and mother who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

She was born February 22, 1931, the daughter of the late George R. and Rabie A. (Cullis) Hinckley. She grew up in Albany and graduated from Albany High School prior to attending Albany Business College. Joan worked for the NYS Department of Audit and Control for 41 years before retiring in 1991. In her younger years she was an enthusiastic downhill and water skier. Joan loved caring for her home and was a knowledgeable collector of antiques. She was an accomplished baker and was renowned for her beautiful gift wrapping and floral arrangements. She loved to shop and adapted easily to the use of online retailers.

Joan is survived by her two grateful children, Robert Francis (Natalie) Kirchner Jr. of Niskayuna, Steven M. (Rebecca) Kirchner of Poestenkill, her two grandchildren, Coleton G. Kirchner and Carly R. Kirchner of Niskayuna, her brother Charles C. Hinckley of Santa Rosa, CA, her niece Patricia (James) Freeman of Summerfield, NC, her nephew William C. Hinckley of Novato, CA, her cousin Frederick Guyer of Albany, and her two close friends of 70 years Margaret Ryan and Edna McGinn. She was predeceased by her brother George R. Hinckley, Jr.

Funeral services will be held in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY, Tuesday morning at 9:30am and from there to Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-7 p.m. In remembrance, donations can be made to Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Road, Albany NY.
