Carmen D. Slaughter, 58, of Albany, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Carmen was the daughter of Julia (Harris) Scism and the late Joe Scism. She was the devoted wife to Michael E. Slaughter. Together they were married 4 years.

Carmen grew up and lived in Albany most of her life, she was educated in local schools including Doane Stuart School and a graduate of Brown University with a BA in Political Science.

After college, Carmen joined the US Army for active duty training in the 1980s.

For most of her adult life she worked for the State of New York in various departments. She was employed as a Senior Administrative Analyst for the Dept. of Finance in Albany until illness.

Carmen's passion was reading in peace, but she also enjoyed traveling, shopping and photography.

Carmen is survived by her husband Michael E. Slaughter, her mother Julia Harris Scism, her son; Christopher Eastland Scism, siblings; Cheryl Scism of Albany, Cathryn McBride of Rotterdam and Christopher Scisim of Gadsden, AL. Also survived by two nieces; Amber Morst of Greenbelt, MD and Talisha Clermont of Irvington, NJ and two nephews; Jordan McBride of Rotterdam and Jonathan McBride of Albany. Also survived by a host of other family members.

A home going funeral service will be held from New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie at 11 a.m. on September 27th, 2017. Viewing hours will precede the service from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in the Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
