ALBANY- Robert F. Currier, 68, passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2017 at his home. Mr. Currier was born on March 23, 1949, in Worcester, MA, the son of Sylvester (Whitey) Currier and Shirley Coyle Currier.

Bob was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, NY, and Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. He had a long career in local government spanning over 36 years, which included positions in the finance and audit fields in Rensselaer County government, the NYS Department of Social Services, and most recently as Executive Deputy Comptroller to Albany County, from which he retired several years ago.

Mr. Currier was well-known and highly respected in the professional community. In 1999 he was presented the Edward L. Crawford Award for his contributions to County Government and his dedicated service as Treasurer to the New York State Association of Counties.

In addition to his mother, Shirley, he is survived by his daughter Kathleen A. Pangburn (Michael Arel); his son, Michael S. Currier (Stacey Primero); and his children’s mother, Joanne Keil Currier. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer Pangburn, Matthew Pangburn, Rachel Currier, and Casey Currier. Also surviving are his sister Kathy Farnan (John), his nephew Ryan Farnan, and niece Kimberly Farnan; as well as many other relatives and friends. Bob was predeceased by his father Whitey.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
