SCHENECTADY-Ruth Van Evera Barton, 92, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

She was born on August 5, 1924 to the late William and Grace (Witbeck) Houck.

Ruth was a lifelong resident of Schenectady. She enjoyed children and spent many years caring for children in her home. Ruth was an 80 year member of Emmanuel Friedens Church formerly Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Ruth was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her family cherishes their many fond memories of the time they spent with her, including many special holiday celebrations.

Ruth is survived by her children, William (Terry) Van Evera, Scott Van Evera, Alison Van Evera; grandchildren, Christopher (Leigh) Ouimet, Brittany Van Evera, Craig Van Evera and great-grandson, Brayden Ouimet and many friends.

She was predeceased by her great-granddaughter, Olivia Ouimet and her brothers, Arnold Houck and Robert Houck.

At the request of the family funeral services will be private. Interment will be held at Rotterdam United Methodist Cemetery.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held on July 22, 2017 at 10:00am Emmanuel Friedens Church, 218 Nott Ter., Schenectady, NY 12307. A notice with service times will be published at a later date.
