ALBANY - John Dominick Morrell, 91 of Albany, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.

Born on May 5, 1926 in Albany, New York, John graduated from Coeymans High School and went on to study at Hudson Valley Community College. He served his country in the US Air Corps during World War II. In 1949 he married Margaret Motta and remained happily married for 68 years.

John lived life to the fullest and on his own terms. He was full of positive energy and a distinct sense of purpose that became a source of encouragement and strength for both family and friends. His family always came first and was dearly beloved by all of us as John, Dad, Poppy, Great Grandpa and Uncle John. He will be sorely missed.

A prominent business leader, John was President of Boni-Morrell Inc. Electrical Contracting & Engineering Firm, Sabon Supply Co. and Electro Input Corp. He was a past president of NECA (National Electrical Contractor Association) and Chairman for the Blue Ridge Investment Group. John valued friends and community. He served as a member of the Colonie Elks, the West Albany Italian Benevolent Society and the Knights of Columbus. John was also a founding member of the Italian American Community Center, Albany, NY and Pinehaven Country Club, Guilderland, NY.

One of the founding families of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Albany, NY (now Mater Christi), John and his family remained long-standing parishioners and supporters. In his spare time he loved gardening, golfing, tinkering in his workshop, being on the water and spending time with his family. He excelled at clarinet from a young age and constantly played and listened to music.

John is survived by his wife Margaret, his children John Morrell, Jr. and Linda Morrell (Bruce Romanchak), his grandchildren Emily (Dylan) Hayden and Sasha Romanchak, his great granddaughter Madeline Margaret Hayden, his sister Teresa Giroux (Kim, Scott, Michael) and other family and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents Carmela (Rauche) and Dominick Morrell of Ravena, NY.

A gathering will be held on Saturday, June 24th from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Mater Christi Catholic Church, (35 Hurst Ave., Albany, NY 12208), where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, (481 Route 9W Glenmont, NY 12077).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be give to a charity of your choice.
