Niskayuna- Michael S. Jones, 51, passed away peacefully at home with family and cherished friends by his side on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Michael is the beloved son of Barbara Jones and the late Michael W. Jones.
His intelligence, kindness, generosity, humor and humility were well known to all who knew him.
Michael’s passion in life was teaching, an area he was especially gifted at, driven by his love for his students. He began teaching at Hackett Middle School in 1991 and Niskayuna High School in 1994 where he taught until his health no longer allowed.
In addition to his mother, Michael is survived by his sisters, Terri Huzarewicz, Michelle (Scott) McGauley and his brother Joseph (Sandy) Jones. He is also survived by four cherished nieces.
Michael’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Albany County Hospice, his Niskayuna High School family and his wonderful lifelong friends too numerous to mention, who supported him throughout his illness.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Michael’s name to “NTA Scholarship Fund”, PO Box 9662, Niskayuna, NY 12309, as this charity was dear to Michael's heart. The money that this fund collects goes directly to needy Niskayuna students to help them pay for college.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 900 Madison Ave, Albany, NY 12208.
