Manzi, Ruth Fairbairn
ALBANY- Ruth Fairbairn Manzi, 79, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. She was born on June 29, 1935 in Ogdensburg, NY, St. Lawrence County, eldest daughter of the late Lorne and Marge (King) Fairbairn. Ruth graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and attended St. Lawrence University and the NY State College for Teachers Albany. She graduated from Empire State College with a bachelor’s degree and from SUNY Albany with a Master’s. Ruth married Andrew Manzi on August 3, 1958, recently celebrating 56 married years. She cherished family and enjoyed participating in parent-school-church organizations as well as crafts, needlework, and sewing. Ruth taught remedial math at William S. Hackett Middle School for 20 years. In the early 1980s, she renewed a childhood interest in music playing in the Fort Cralo Yankee Doodle Band and the Albany Area Senior Orchestra. After retirement, Ruth renewed another of her childhood interests each fall, returning to St. Lawrence County to hunt big game. She was survived by husband Andrew who passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 and children, Teresa and Christopher (Colleen); grandchildren, Andrew, Elena, Alysia, Arieana, Cody, and Keenan; siblings, Eleanor Fairbairn, Melba (Peter) Tacy, Carol (Robert) Young, and Lorne Fairbairn; brothers-in-law Louis, Anthony (Phyllis), and Frank (Maureen); and many, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by son, Andrew; and sisters, Lorna and Dorothy. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2014, at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Monday, September 8, 2014, at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany, NY. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Albany. Special thanks to the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital for their compassionate care of Ruth in her final days.
