ALBANY – Samuel R. Grimaldi, born January 31, 1944, a beloved brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013 after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Sam was a lifelong resident of Albany. He graduated Cardinal McCloskey High School in 1962. Sam enlisted in the Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1962 to 1965 and honorably discharged. Sam was an athlete and self-proclaimed health nut, serving on the Board of Directors for Albany Y.M.C.A. for many years. He loved being active in youth sports as a mentor, coach and referee. After retirement, Sam became involved in community service and developed a passion for the study of history and became a skilled artist.

A special thanks to Julie Del Vecchio, a family friend who gave love and support to all, and to Michael Shinas and John Gottstine; friends who kept Sammy’s spirits high during tough times.
