Born November, 15, 1933, in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Alice (McGilfrey) Allen.
Barb attended Vincentian Institute, in Albany NY. She began her working career with the phone company, and then later worked at JCPenney while raising her three boys. In 1994, she retired from her job at the New York State Employees Retirement System, and Comptroller’s Office, where she worked for nearly 25 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed Gardening and belonged to a Garden Club. She loved spending time with her friends, socializing, and belonged to a Bowling League. Barb was an avid reader, and collector. She was extremely kind and generous, and made friends wherever she went. She was a master at making a short story long. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons Robert of Malta, NY, and Gary, of Mt.Laurel, NJ; her daughter-in-law Laurie Jenkins; her grandchildren, David, Nina, Jenna, Jasmine Jenkins, and Shari Baker, and 6 great-grandchildren Serena and Philip Jenkins, Lauren and Andrew Schrom, and Sophia and Julia Baker.
In addition to her Husband Duane, she was predeceased by her son, Richard, and her grandson Robert.
Friends and family are invited to attend Visitation on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 10:00am - 11:00am at Newcomer Cremations & Funerals at 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie NY 12205. A Moment of Remembrance will begin at 11:00am, and the family asks that you bring your stories. Interment will follow at Albany Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara name may be made to the American Cancer Society by visiting www.donate3.cancer.org or by donating to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center by mailing a donation to 2 Mercycare Lane Guilderland, New York 12084.
