In Memory Of
Eric Roy Green
1941 - 2022

ALBANY-Eric Roy Green, affectionately known as “Sanky”, “Green” or “Mr. Green” to many, came from the strong roots of the late Elizabeth (Hunter) and Hezekiah Green. He was born in Johns Hall, St. James Parish, Montego Bay, Jamaica, West Indies on November 2, 1941 and entered his final resting place on, Saturday, June 25, 2022. He was 80 years old.

When he was young he completed elementary school and set out at a young age to Kingston, Jamaica to start his work life. He worked as a short order cook in the Café at York Pharmacy. He drove the Grey Mist and the Greenline Country Buses all over the various parishes in Jamaica, he learned Masonry work and also developed his carpenter skills. He could practically fix anything and build a house from the ground up! During his time in Kingston he met the love of life Vera Barnes, who ultimately became Vera Green after a long courtship. From this union came two children: Conroy Anthony, Sr. and Sharon Marie.

Searching for better opportunities to provide for his family, he migrated to the United States (1978) on the wings of his sister Hermine, and found employment as a maintenance worker at the Cohoes Manufacturing Company. Shortly after securing employment he travelled back to Jamaica, married Vera, and brought his young family back to the States, settling in Albany for the remainder of his life. During his work life he was a licensed tractor-trailer driver where he regularly drove across the country, taking him away from his family for long lengths of time, he eventually gave up truck driving to be home closer to his family. He worked at the Freihofers’ Baking Company, as a Bake Shop Worker, and was a Highway Maintenance Worker for the New York State Thruway Authority for over 15 years.

Eric loved life. He loved to watch boxing matches, he enjoyed deep-sea fishing, the New York Yankees baseball, watching re-runs of Sanford and Son and the Jeffersons. He loved hanging out with the fellas, playing dominoes and cards, and he loved sipping that Budweiser Brew! He was a good husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He was always willing to help his friends and family with projects around their homes. He was a good man and a good friend.

Eric is preceded in death by his wife Vera (2014) and his sister Hermine (Kiddy) Greene (2004). He is survived by his two children, Conroy Anthony, Sr. and Sharon Green-Millwood (Clarence). Three sisters Verlin Garvey, Cynthia Campbell, and Gloria Moncrieffe, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and loved ones.
