Marian C. (Stark) Brinker, 55, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2021 at home after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Olean, NY, as the daughter of Philip Stark and the late Judy Stark, Marian graduated from Northfield (VT) High School in 1984 and from the University of Vermont in 1988 with a degree in English and Secondary Education, and an MA in Composition from Kent State University in 1994. Marian had a passion for writing and a gift for teaching. She enjoyed hiking and the outdoors, was obsessed with photography, and was a caring individual to all that she came in contact with. As the unofficially recognized family historian, a mantle she picked up from her beloved Nana and namesake, Marian Stark, she enjoyed collecting photos and records of the family going back for generations.

Marian is remembered by friends as a sincere soul with a witty and sarcastic sense of humor, and to her immediate family known as their absolute bedrock. She was grateful to realize her lifelong dream of becoming a mother to her children, Jade in 2002 and Alejandro in 2003. They were her inspiration and she dedicated her life to guiding and nurturing them, they brought her endless joy.

Marian is survived by her spouse of 31 years, Brianne (she/her), children Jade (she/her) and Alejandro (he/him), father Philip Stark (he/him, Olean, NY), siblings Chris Stark (he/him, New Bedford, NY), Monica Zeferino (she/her, Sandwich, MA), and Philip Stark, Jr (he/him, Charlotte, NC), and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Judy (Hinsley) Stark (she/her).

Services to be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, at St. Kateri Tekewitha Church, Union St, Schenectady, NY with visitation from 8:30-10am, and the funeral mass at 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to American Cancer Society
