West Sand Lake- Richard John Buck Jr., 71, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021

Richard was the son of the late Richard and Joan Buck.

Richard graduated from Catskill High School and the University of Utah.

Richard traveled extensively, each trip included skiing, trekking, hiking, museums and exploring the destination. He always shared the adventure with friends and family, doing his best to show you life through his eyes.

Richard constantly had home projects and took such passion in getting it done the right way. “Measure twice and cut once” He greatly enjoyed working with wood, building sheds, raised garden beds, skateboard ramps, and small craft projects using treasures he gathered from his walks in the forests and mountains.

Richard was a valued member of the AIDS Institute during the AIDS epidemic. He helped stand up and carry out the goals and objectives of the HIV Prevention and Primary Care Initiative from 1998 through 2005. The significance of this program and its participants both governmental and in the community are a significant part of the AIDS Institute success story in addressing the AIDS epidemic in New York State.

Following his work at the AIDS Institute Richard went on to serve with the Office of Health Preparedness from 2005 through 2012 when he retired from State service. As the manager for Border Health, working with the Northeast Border Health Initiative, the Public Health Agency of Canada and the New York State Indian Nations to improve emergency response to emerging diseases.

Richard is survived by his wife, Janet Buck. He was a proud father to Alexander Buck(Emily), Zachary Yannone(Stacey), Michael Yannone. Richard was a loving grandfather to Jacob, Sabine and Summer.
His cherished siblings, Barbara Buck, David Buck(Francine). He enjoyed being an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at the family home on October 23, 2021 at 280 Parker Rd, West Sand Lake, NY. A calling hour from 10-11 am, the celebration will begin at 11am with a private gathering after the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Center, 310 So. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 with a memo “Skiing Beats Cancer” or a charity of your choosing.
