Sherrie Denise Griffith
1952 - 2021

Albany~ Sherrie was a graduate of Classic High School in Springfield, Mass. She went on to earn a degree in Business from Los Angeles Valley College and completed 3 years at Mid-Hudson Bible Institute towards a BS in Theology. She was a member of Grace Redemption Church under Willie R. Logan in Fredericksburg, Virginia. After moving back to Albany, she became a member of Wilborn Temple First Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Emmett H. Jeffress and Elder Solomon Dees. Sherrie loved to go out to eat with her daughter Kiera. She had a great sense of humor. Everyone would come to her house and talk to her through the window. She cooked the most amazing food! Her Mac and Cheese was the best! She had the most wonderful smile that made people feel happy. And she loved gospel music. She loved all her children and those she adopted as her own in the Capital District who viewed her as a mother figure and a grandmother figure. She loved her children to no end. And one of her quotes she often recited was “love is love and loyalty is everything”

Sherrie is survived by her loving daughter Kiera Sherrie Griffith, sisters Valerie “Cookie” Dare, Virginia “Jenny” Dare, Shawn Johnson-Davey, Gina Horne-Tucker, Diane Horne-Jones, Robin Horne-Cooley, Lisa Good and brother Garry Snead, grandson Shane Maurice Cruz. Close friends: Chrystie Logan, Purcell Royal, Leslie Cope, Veronica and Stephanie Mott, Ralph and Laura Prosper, Anthony and Deborah Jones.

She is also survived by her Godchildren: Frank Cruz, Kameishia Handy, William Durr, Nas Turner, Brandon Williams, Angela Kitchen, Oceana Morris, Ashley Logan, Queniah Maye and Tevin Tanksley.

She was preceded in death by her son Rashaun Maurice Byrd, loving grandmother Emma Saterfield, whom she lovingly called "Granny" raised her from an infant until she was 11yrs old along with adopted mother Mary ”Shorty” -Ward, mother Christina Snead, and siblings Jackie, Keith Dare, Leonard Dare, Leroy Horne, and Niles Caesar.

Memorials and flowers can be sent to Kiera at 1202 Phoenix Ave. Schenectady, NY 12308.
