BALLSTON LAKE - Joan M. (Stankiewicz) Buonanno, 87 of Ballston Lake, NY passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.

Joan was born on January 19, 1934, daughter of the late Chester and Helen (Freeman) Stankiewicz in Reading, PA.

Joan worked for a variety of federal government agencies and retired in 2001 after a lengthy career as a Contract Specialist for the National Park Service at Valley Forge National Historical Park. She loved being with her family, participating in her church’s fellowship, and playing Mahjong and being part of her book club with her good friends in her neighborhood. She also enjoyed watching Jeopardy nightly and doing crossword puzzles.

Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Norman A. Buonanno of Ballston Lake and her brother, Edward Stankiewicz.

She is the loving mother of Gale (Doug) Elfner of Clifton Park, Susan (David) McCartney, MD of Lubbock, TX, Mary Jo Buonanno of Arlington, VA and Nancy (Mike) Buonanno Grennan, JD of Poulsbo, WA and the loving grandmother of Matthew (Desiree) Elfner of Clifton Park, Lauren Elfner, JD of Washington, DC, Nali McCartney of Manassas, VA, Andrew (Alicia) McCartney, JD of Dearborn, OH, Rachael McCartney of Lubbock, TX, Daniel (Olivia) McCartney of Durham, NC, David McCartney of Lubbock, TX, Patrick Grennan of Brooklyn, NY, Gillian Grennan of San Diego, CA, and great-grand-daughter, Stella Elfner.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 7, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Edward The Confessor Roman Catholic Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd., Clifton Park, NY 12065. Interment will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church in memory of Joan Buonanno.
