Dimitri Athanasiou Grivas
1949 - 2021

Niskayuna- Dimitri Athanasiou Grivas, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Born in Athens, Greece he was the son of the late Spyridon Athanasiou Grivas and Aggeliki Progoulaki. Dimitri is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy (Gallagher) Grivas.

Dimitri was a retired professor of civil engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, NY. He was also President of ARMA International specializing in technology and engineering and Executive Director of the Institute for Infrastructure Asset Management.
Dimitri was a devoted member of the Greek Orthodox Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his two daughters; Angela Grivas-Ryason (Adam) and Genevieve Grivas (Sean). He will also be missed by his two sisters in Greece, Akaterina Kakavouli (Panayiotis) and Marika Moustakis (Andreas) as well as his mother in law Genevieve Gallagher of Clifton Park.
Dimitri is predeceased by his sister Theoni Bachos as well as her husband Makis Bachos. In addition Dimitri is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Greece and the United States.

In lieu of flowers memorial of contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204, or the St. Peter’s ALS Regional Center, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205. The family would like to give a special thanks to the ALS Center for the love and care given to Dimitri and his family.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 10am-12pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. Please visit the New Comer Website the day of the service for a link to view the services.

A funeral service at the funeral home will begin at 12pm. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
