Charles W. Christopher
1929 - 2021

Charles W. Christopher, Sr., 91, formerly of Latham, peacefully passed away on February 25, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Charlie was born in 1929, the son of William J. and Penelope Christopher. He lived most of his adult life in the Albany area where he ran his father’s hardware store in Albany’s South End neighborhood. Charlie then began a career in the banking business where he met Kathryn Hudson. The two married in 1953 and happily raised four children until Kate’s sudden passing in 1987. Kate and Charlie also camped for many years at their summer home in Lake George, which became a gathering place for extended family with many happy memories.

Later in life, Charlie became a snowbird, spending winter months in Auburndale, Florida, alongside his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Bev, sister Helen, and various nieces and nephews. Charlie also enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics in both New York and Florida, and won medals in shuffleboard, bowling, and billiards. Charlie truly lived a full life.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Kate, brothers and sisters Ethel (Hans) Burgi, John Christopher, George (Joyce) Christopher, Adelaide White, and Helen (Frank) Panis. Charlie is survived by his children Linda (Robert) Engel, Cathryn (Peter) Motta, Charles Christopher, Jr., and Paul Christopher, grandchildren Rachel Motta, Allison Motta, Morgan Christopher and Brandon Christopher, brother William (Beverly), and numerous nieces and nephews. Charlie’s children send sincere thanks to the staff at Albany Medical Center Critical Care Unit as well as Loudonville Assisted Living Memory Care Unit for their excellent care and kindness given to our father, and to our family’s caregiving friends who helped him maintain his independence until relocating to Loudonville Assisted Living in the fall of 2019.

A visitation will be held on Monday March 1 from 4pm-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie NY. A service will be held Wednesday March 3rd at 10am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens.

Social distance practices in effect and masks are required in the building.
