Kenneth J. "Jr." Murphy
1937 - 2021

Kenneth J. Murphy, 83, of Albany, passed away on February 24, 2021 peacefully at his home surrounded by family.

Born in Chicopee, MA, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Loretta Lord Murphy.

A U.S. Marine, Kenneth served two tours of duty over 8 years during the Vietnam War: the first overseas in Vietnam and the second stateside at the Pentagon. The discipline and leadership gained in the military led him to becoming a Regional Manager for Valle’s Steak House. It was during this time that he somehow found the time and energy to run two NYC marathons. He later ran his own limousine service before taking a leadership role for the city of Yonkers. He retired from the city of Yonkers as the Manager of the Water Department in 2009. Kenneth kept remarkably busy in retirement and surprised us all by becoming a beekeeper at the age of 79. He educated himself on every facet of his newfound hobby and at harvest time, he would proudly distribute his honey to family and friends. In his final year, Kenneth decided to renovate his entire home. With an oxygen tank draped over his shoulder, Kenneth went to work and made it happen. That was the essence of his life: to set a goal and fight to make it happen. Kenneth will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved him.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Irene Murphy. He is also survived by his siblings Beverly Konarski (John), Mary McAllister (Carl), Edward “Mickey” Murphy (Molly) and Dennis Murphy, and his children Kenneth Murphy III, Gail Drewniak (Paul), Dorene LePage (Patrick Burns), Joanne Murphy-Hollins (Charles), Carleen Bishop (Christopher), Doreen LiPuma Fraietta (Michael), Salvatore J. LiPuma Jr. (Rhonda), Joseph J LiPuma, Ronald J. LiPuma (Kerry), and Lynda LiPuma Reissman (Scott). Kenneth is also survived by his 20 beloved grandchildren, 5 nephews and 4 nieces.

Visitation will be held Sunday February 28, from 4pm-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, Colonie, New York.

Interment to take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Monday March 1, at Noon.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Vietnam Veterans of America at www.vva.org/donate.
