1942 - 2021

George Robert “The Rev” Block

Born June 21, 1942 in Brooklyn, N.Y. entered into eternal rest on January 16th, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was 78. He lived the majority of his life in NYC and Long Island and there was no prouder “city boy”.

His primary calling was serving God as the pastor of 2 churches: Calvary Bible Church in Glendale, NY and Low’s Corners Bapstist Church in Grahamsville, NY. He also enjoyed a 30+ year career in income tax preparation, running his own business until he retired in 2018.

One of George’s greatest passions was 50’s music and his favorite musician Buddy Holly. He was one of the early members of the Buddy Holly Memorial Society and a regional expert on Buddy and Doo-Wop music. He was often heard on Sullivan County’s WVOS “Bop Shop” with John Manzi on Sunday nights.

Some of George’s happiest times were at his family’s bungalow in the Catskills where he spent nearly every summer.

George is survived by his former wife Bonita Miles, daughters Rebecca (James) Butler and Elizabeth (Bob) Williams, son Drew Block (Freida) and several nieces and nephews.

After cremation, a memorial service will be held on 1pm, June 19th 2021 at Cambria Heights Gospel Chapel 221-02 Linden Blvd., Jamaica, NY 11411. Due to current COVID restrictions attendance is limited to 37.
