Troy ~ Chris Baron, 70, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Chris was born in Colchester, Vermont, son of the late Donald and Mary Louise Baron. He grew up in Colonie, NY, and attended Bishop Gibbons High School in Schenectady. Chris worked in the automotive field throughout his life. First as a mechanic, and later as a service advisor. Before his retirement, he worked at Fuccillo Hyundai of Schenectady for many years.

Chris will be remembered for his strength as a father, his sense of adventure and his generosity towards his community. He was a lover of cars, the open road, and Christmastime. He was a huge fan of the NY Yankees, the Miami Dolphins, and Albany All Stars Roller Derby. Like his parents before him, his door was always open to those who needed it. Being a true kid at heart, Chris spent his retirement delighting in volunteer work with the Senior Corps of CEO’s Foster Grandparent Program in Troy. There, he mentored children in reading comprehension and connected to his students through stories and games.

While Chris would be hard-pressed to admit accomplishments, his children describe him as a great man who instilled the values of independence, patience, and a good work ethic. He taught them everything from cooking to car maintenance and, above all, to have fun. He always encouraged them to challenge themselves and to do better than he had in life (something difficult for them to fathom). Chris often said that he still did not know what he wanted to be when he grew up, but being a good father was unequivocally his calling.

The lessons he taught and the love he gave from his enormous heart will live on through those who knew him. It is the loss of someone like Chris that helps remind us of that beauty and that we must do whatever it takes to be our best; Be kind, share our love, and our passions.

Chris is survived by his daughters, Madalyn and Tara Baron, stepson Kennedy Gonzalez; and siblings Rebecca (Ray Iveson), Jonathan (Betsy), and Matthew (Susan).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, memorial services will be held privately. An online option for the memorial service will be available on February 13th at 2pm. Please go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EboYAfGi59A&feature=youtu.be to view the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chris’ name to the Commission on Economic Opportunity and its Foster Grandparent Program: (https://www.ceoempowers.org/how-to-give/online-donations/)
