COLONIE- Cheryl A. Wrzochalski Ed.D, 76 years old, passed away January 21, 2021 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on March 4, 1944 in Utica, NY to Francis and Ruby Breakey.

She grew up in Copenhagen, NY. On September 30, 1966 she married John J. Wrzochalski at St. Michael's Church in Cohoes, NY. They resided in the Town of Colonie.

Cheryl received her B.S in Education from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh in 1965, her M.S in Education from the College of Saint Rose in 1973 and a Doctorate in Education from SUNY Albany in 1987. She taught science in the Shenendehowa Central School District for 25 years. She became the science department chair at Shenendehowa in 1987 and retired in 1999. Cheryl was the director of the Capital District Science Supervisors Association for several years and served as treasurer of the NY State Science Supervisors Association for 3 years. She was a strong advocate for involving dogs in education and her very special golden retriever, Sunny, helped spearhead her initiative. Along with Sunny, Cheryl volunteered for over 10 years with Therapy Dogs International.

After her retirement she volunteered for the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, Golden Retriever Rescue of NY State and senior services of Albany. Cheryl continued her involvement with Therapy Dogs International with her golden retrievers, Shiloh and Sasha. She was also a volunteer at the Albany County Airport for their Ambassador Program. Cheryl was passionate for the outdoors and spent most of her summers camping in her RV with her loyal canine companions at Lake Harris in the Adirondacks. She loved to travel with friends and explore many beautiful places around the world.

She is survived by her husband John J. Wrzochalski and two daughters, Jackie Wrzochalski (Schenectady, NY) and Shelley Wrzochalski (Wausau, WI). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, many very dear friends and her loyal companion, Suri. She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Ruby Breakey and her sister Marilyn Breakey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her graveside service on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet Shaker Road, Colonie, NY 12205. Face masks are required and social distancing is to be observed.
