Latham -

Catherine G. (Cathy) Fonda of Latham, passed suddenly on January 16, 2021, she was 73.

Born in Albany on September 21, 1947 but raised in Latham, she resided there until her passing. She graduated from Shaker High School in 1966. Cathy worked at various jobs with the latest being Price Chopper in Latham as a bagger before she retired. She was an avid bowler who was on many leagues at Latham Bowl over the years. In years past Cathy could be found at the former Latham Circle Mall most days, shopping or going to the movies. Her love of knitting and crocheting knew no bounds. She always had a lot of yarn and was ready to make something. She also collected porcelain dolls. She attended the Workshop in Menands where she made many friends.

In 2005 she entered Wildwood Programs and moved into an apartment in their Latham facility. Cathy loved living there and she certainly blossomed and made a lot of friends of both peers and staff. She went on many trips and vacations with the friends she made there and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Wildwood Programs was certainly home to Cathy.

Her family would like to thank all the staff, current and former who encouraged and helped Cathy during her years there. Most especially we would like to thank Ann Murphy and Sue Hanson for being there for Cathy, when Cathy needed to be in Wildwood Programs. And to Lindsay Parker her nurse from Wildwood Programs, thank you for your compassion and communication. You are a true advocate for your patients.

Cathy was predeceased by her parents, Kathryn and Warren Fonda, her siblings Carol Blakely, Jacque Ritz and John Blakely.
Cathy was the cherished aunt of Deborah Ritz of Halfmoon and William (Wendy) Ritz III of Glenmont. She was the great aunt of Daniel (Marnie) Welsh of Halfmoon, Christopher (Taraneh) Welsh of Clifton Park, William Ritz IV of Troy, Justin (Karyn) Ritz of Melrose, MA and Alexa Ritz of Riverside CA. She was the great, great aunt of Elyse Welsh of Clifton Park. Cathy is also survived by her cousins Vicki (Bill) Bates of New Jersey and Linda (Darryl) Rivenburg of Albany.

Visitation will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Private family funeral service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Wildwood Programs in Cathy’s name would be appreciated.
