He was predeceased by his wife Isabelle; children: Joseph J., Gary Wayne, Linda and Raymond.
Bernie enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951. He served in the Korean War. He traveled to many places including Panama, Cuba, Naples, Greece, Turkey, Crete, Malta, France and Sicily.
Bernie met his wife Isabelle on leave in Baltimore, Maryland, where he saw her at an amusement park. He traveled to West Virginia to ask for her hand in marriage. They were married in Beckley, West Virginia. Together they have 6 sons and 3 daughters.
Bernie worked as an electrician for New York State for 42 years, then worked at Historic St. Mary’s as a Maintenance Man for the church and Food Pantry.
He enjoyed playing darts and a cold beer to relax and unwind.
He is survived by his children: Bernard (Elizabeth), Sharon Berwick, David Weis Sr., Mary Bernard-Loucks (Michael), William Weis, Barbara Lostritto (Tony), Michael Weis (Ann), and Robert Weis (Wendy); sister, Lois Sprague. Also survived by 20 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Wednesday, October 28 from 10 to 12 Noon at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
Gathering size, within our chapels will be based on the most current NYS occupancy requirements. Masks are required, and social distancing is to be observed inside and outside of our chapels.
The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Peter’s Nursing & Rehab for their care to Bernie.
