I worked with Xin while he was a postdoc at Indiana University a decade ago. I remember him as a thoughtful, gentle and considerate man with a quiet, perceptive sense of humor. He was an extremely good scientist with great mathematical ability. I was shocked when I heard of his tragic and senseless demise and my heart goes out to his family. May they be sustained by the memories he left behind. The world has lost someone who made a real impact on all those he touched.

I am so sorry to hear of Xin's passing. I worked with him on the Radiation Safety Committee at the Wadsworth Center. He was always very easy-going and pleasant to work with, and brought incredible knowledge to the program. I am very sad to hear about this. My condolences to Ko-Shin and David, Jingming and Ye, may you find peace in this difficult time.

First time when I saw you in our table tennis club, I was very much impressed by your high quality forehand and backhand loops, and very happy that we have a top player in our club now. You didn't come to the club very often, and every time you came, you would tell us in a somewhat shy manner, that you had to take care of your son and waited until he fell into sleep first, before you could come to play table tennis with us. Those words expressed a very warm and affectionate relationship between father and son, and touched the soft spot of everyone's heart. Not too long ago, I was still thinking that once the covid-19 pandemic is over, we will have a chance to play again. I was so shocked and sad to know that you left your family and friends so soon. Although we won't see you in our club again, there is a very good table tennis player in heaven now. You will be dearly missed on earth!

I am so saddened for losing a very humble, gentle and professionally well trained colleague at Wadsworth Center and the School of Public Health of University at Albany. Whenever we met, mostly in the corridor between his laboratory and ours, Xin was always very polite and smile. He was tall and skinny, but well fit. He talked with gentle voice. In our last conversation taken place early 2020, we had a good chat about swimming. He mentioned about his son’s swimming practice and inquired about local swimming clubs for kids. At almost every chat, table tennis was always a part of conversation. He was well known as a very good player. I regret for not talking about prevention from occurrence of accidental incidences, e.g., hypertension especially for middle aged men and unknown at early stage. His organs are donated to cherish those whose may need to maintain life. He is person with a beautiful soul! Xin, Rest in peace and you will be remembered and missed.

Xin's passing creates a loss too big for words, and I consider myself lucky to have worked with him on a daily basis at DOH. Always smiling and kind, Xin would drop whatever he was working on to help me...and if he couldn't figure it out or answer my questions, probably no one could! Just an all around awesome person -- I really and truly miss him.

The Capital District of Albany lost a great person, and our CCC Ping Pong Club lost a great member. I knew Xin through the Club, when he came to play ping pong with us. He usually shows up very late at night only after he puts his son into sleep with many bedtime stories read, which shows he was a great father. He was a very knowledgeable and capable person, but he was very humble. Even though his ping pong skills were really advanced, he communicated and wanted to learn from others. He was nice and kind, and everyone in the Ping Pong Club liked him. My sincere condolences to his family.

I am deeply saddened by Xin's sudden passing. He was a good friend and colleague, always kind, gentle, and helpful. I especially enjoyed almost daily chats with him in the hallway in Wadsworth Center. He was a loving husband, father and son. My deepest condolences to his beloved family. We will all miss him very much.

I was so sad to hear of Dr. Li’s passing. He was always so kind and friendly when I saw him at Guilderland Martial Arts, and his son David often talked lovingly and proudly of his dad. Sending my deepest condolences to David and his mom, and to the whole family. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I have known Xin since 2009. Xin was a very faithful, considerate, and supportive friend. He was always very nice to me and provided me with good life suggestions. He truly cared about the benefits for his friends and selflessly shared his ideas and resources to his friends. He was one of the very first persons to teach me neutron scattering analysis, which was very essential to my academic career. He offered me lots of help for my experiments even though he did not need to do so. I felt so lucky to meet such a good person like Xin.
He was also a very family-oriented person. After he got married and had his son, he always mentioned how much he loved his family and he was dedicated to solving the two-body issue in the family. I was so excited for him when he finally got to live in the same city as his wife because I knew it was what he always desired. He was such a good father and husband.
It is a great sorrow for me to lose such a good friend. You will always be remembered, Xin. I pray that comfort will be with Xin's Family during this difficult time.

I worked with Xin for about one year when he was a research associate at LSU. Xin is one of the most gentle and unassuming individuals and a brilliant scientist. He has an inquisitive mind and a kind heart. Xin is always willing to help others both in work and life. He is always very patient teaching others. I have learned so much working with him. Xin also talks about his family often. One can tell he is a loving father and husband. Xin will be sorely missed. RIP.

We are so saddened by Mr. Li’s passing. He was such a wonderful person. He was kind, respectful and fun to be around. Him and his family trained in our Taekwondo school together and they were amazing students. We will miss him terribly and will always remember his contributions. We’re wishing strength, hope and peace for his family. May he Rest In Peace.

I was shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Xin's passing. I've known Xin since he first began his career at Wadsworth Center. He was a talented scientist with broad interests, and one of the friendliest and most humble people that I have known. We often talked in the breakroom or hallways at Wadsworth. The conversations usually revolved around family and activities that we both enjoyed, such as skiing and other sports. It was clear from his conversation and demeanor that he was a devoted husband and father. He was taken much too soon. My sincere condolences to his family.

Dr. Xin Li was an outstanding Research Scientist in the Nuclear Chemistry Laboratory, Division of Environmental Health Sciences at Wadsworth. He was Chair of the Radiation Safety Committee at Wadsworth, and he held an academic appointment as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University at Albany’s School of Public Health. Even though his tenure with Wadsworth was sadly cut short, he will be remembered for his many accomplishments, including his theoretical work on detection limits for Ra-228, where his mathematical skills were very much in evidence. He will also be remembered for his humble nature and the respectful manner in which treated his colleagues. My sincere condolences to his beloved family on their loss.

Xin was one of the most polite and humble person I have known. He was my peer in Wadsworth Center. He worked so hard for his professional achievements and for his family's happiness. Every time we came across in the hall way, we stopped for a short or long conversation. Family was always in our topics and I could tell he was such a loving husband, father, and son. It's a tragedy that the world has lost another great soul. Rest in peace, Xin!

Xin
You were our good son-in-law, and a good father and good husband at home.
We were shocked and saddened by the horrible news. There are a lot of difficulties that have to be overcome by Ko-Shin. We will give her all the help we can. Do not worry. Rest in peace.

I was shocked and deeply saddened by the horrible news. I had the fortune to know Xin when we shared the same break room at Wadsworth Center, New York State Health Department. He was a talented scientist at DOH and a devoted husband and father to his family. I remembered the big smile on his face when he shared the news with me that his wife had accepted a job also at DOH. He was so happy that his family is no longer split and they can finally plan their future together at upstate New York. We went on a skiing trip together with our respective sons to Catamount in the past winter, the boys had a great time on the slope. Xin’s absence will be deeply felt by his colleagues and my family. Rest In Peace, Xin.

Xin is a great Pingpong player. All CCC Pingpong Club members love to play with him. But I have not play with him too much because he has to care of his son and can not come CCC very often or very late. Xin will be greatly missed by our Pingpong Club.
My deepest condolences to Xin's family.

I knew Xin in 2009. He and I are both Prof. Liu's students. He is such a warm person, like my big brother. He gave me a lot advice on how to start my life in U.S. He took me to restaurant, to ski, to shopping. I really enjoyed hanging out with him and I really thank him. He is very talented and diligent on academic work. And he helped me a lot with my research. I remember in the summer of 2009, I planned to join summer school in Oakridge and Argon National laboratory. I was so nervous that I cannot survive. Xin encouraged me to try my best. He told me how he enjoyed that experience by learning new stuff and meeting with new friends and excellent science researchers in the world. Since Xin spend most his time in Oak Ridge, I do not see him a lot later days. But every time we meet we would have a lot things to share to each other, such as how is our study doing, how to get along with our girl friend and so on. It has been years since I saw him last time. I still cannot believe he passed away. I miss you my brother.

Xin: Although I only talked to you two times at work, you have left me with a good memory. The first time was at a committee meeting when we started to know each other. The second time was in the hallway, and we learned about each other’s background... Although our conversations were relatively short, I could tell you are a very nice person. I was shocked when I heard that you had left. When I talked to my wife about you, she soon realized who you are as she saw you in the concourse around the lunch time from time to time... We wish your family find peace and comfort during this difficult period of time. Rest In Peace. - Haixin

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Xin’s passing. I have known him since he joined Wadsworth Center and we worked several projects together. He was good at using mathematics to treat radiochemistry problems. I enjoyed our scientific discussions. Xin was a talented person and he had a willingness to help other staff members to solve our instrument/computer problems. Your husband was a highly valuable member of our team and the effects of his passing are already being felt here. His death is a loss for everyone. I send my deepest condolences to you and your family.

He was my classmate in high school. He was monitor of our class and I was vice monitor. Li was a very decent man who always be happy to help others. He was so talented nearly did everything excellent. I always wondering how can One human being be so perfect. I believe he had left his spirit of optimism and love to his son, his family.

I extend my deepest condolences to Ms. Ko-Shin Chen and David Li. I was in the committee which hired Dr. Xin Li at the NY State Department of Health. Xin was a very talented person who significantly contributed to NY State programs. I enjoyed discussions and collaboration with Xin. Based on the discussions with Xin, I recall that he was very devoted to raising his son. We are all shocked and saddened by his untimely departure. He will be thoroughly missed and our professional program will be diminished without Xin's participation.
~ Thomas Semkow - May 18, 2020
I have known Xin for 20 years. He was my colleague classmate and one of my roommates in the first year of colleague. He was such a kind, smart, compassionate, and humorous person. He did very well in his academic work throughout the entire colleague. He liked making new friends and always made people around him feel warm. He started learning playing guitar in his junior year and did a few performances in class activities which was very good. We had a great time. He was a Pingpong master, with great passion on this sport. He was also a poem writer. He is a fighter, a truly brave soul.
It is with great sorrow to say that I lost a good friend, a reliable ally, and a great drinking buddy.

I don’t remember when I last saw you, Xin, maybe a year ago, even though we live close by.
I vividly remember when I first met you in my office as a young and energetic student. You are my first doctoral student. You became so close to me and my husband that we think you are our little brother. However, I missed all your important life landmarks: commencement, wedding, and child birth. That leaves void in my memory and heart. I can never make up.
You were only 38. Too fast and too early.
In 2007, we were all young.
I remember…
…you are always a humble and respectful young man.
I remember…
…your study in both RPI and Oak Ridge National Lab was happy and fruitful.
I remember…
…you were the big brother for our research group.
I remember…
…you were so nervous for PhD defense and felt you were criticized by committee members. The truth is everyone likes you so much therefore we decided to ask you more questions.
I remember…
…you were so excited for marrying Ko-Shin.
I remember…
…you love David so much. You are an extraordinary father.
I remember…
…you were so happy that finally Ko-Shin can join you and David in Albany.
I was so fortunate to be your advisor.
Rest in Peace, Xin. You will be forever remembered as a 25 year old when I first met you.
Our Thoughts and Love are with You and Your Family Forever.
~ Emily Liu - May 18, 2020
I only had the pleasure of talking to Xin a handful of times. I was struck by his politeness & his obvious love for his boy, David. I had an immediate fondness for the man.
My son, Vinnie, is in the same class at Westmere with David and they took the bus to after school at Guilderland Martial Arts together. David is a fantastic kid & Vinnie considers him a dear friend.
I pray that comfort and peace will be with the Li Family during this difficult time.

Xin Li, known to our pingpong club as Xiao Li, was an excellent pingpong player. What I remembered of him was not only his pingpong skills, but his devotion to his son. He usually came in late because he needed to make sure his son was taken care of. He is missed terribly.
~ Junnong Tang - May 18, 2020
I have known Xin for almost 10 years since he was a Ph.D. student at the RPI. He had been always very passionate about science and physics over his scientific career. I have been fortunately collaborated with him and had a few papers published together. He is a great scientist with a passion to address important issues. Even after Xin shifted his scientific interests away from neutron scattering, he has been still helping neutron scattering community by serving as a reviewer for scientific proposals at national neutron facilities. During our last meeting at Albany in January, we were still discussing some scientific topics together. Xin even mentioned that he would plan to visit me and my family this year at Maryland. Xin is a good friend of many people. Over years, he had lived in a few different places in USA, and had been always ready to help people and make a lot friends wherever he stayed. He has always a calming character and charming smiles. As a colleague in the scientific field and a long-time friend of Xin, I feel so sad that we lost a good friend and a passionate scientist. For Xin's family, I would like to offer our deepest and most sincere condolences. And may the soul of Xin rest in peace in heaven. And please don't hesitate to contact me if I could be of any help in future.

I have the pleasure of working with Ko-Shin and she would have lunch with Xin everyday. He sometimes would come into our office to meet her and was always friendly and pleasant. Xin and Ko-Shin seemed to have a great partnership and friendship enjoying each other's company. I'm happy for Ko-Shin that she was able to spend so much time with Xin while he was here. Ko-Shin and David are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending my love to them.

I got to know Xin Li and his family through my husband. They work in the same center. We were invited to his son’s birthday party and met Xin and his wife there for the first time, then we became friends. The first impression of Xin is that he is a very warm and friendly guy. He is not very talkative, but a good listener. You can fell he is a very gentle and sweet person. It is such a shame that the world lost such a loving father, husband and son. We will miss you, Xin. Rest In Peace. We will forever remember you.
