East Greenbush - Jan 10, 2019, Nicola Valente, age 98, passed away at Albany Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Albany, the son of the late Nicola and Anna (Dembrowski) Valente. Husband of the late Helen (Dedrick) Valente. They were married over 70 years.

Graduated from Philip Schuyler High School in 1938.

Served in the U.S. Marine Corp as a staff sergeant in the South Pacific during World War II.

Employed by F & M Schaefer Brewing Co. for over thirty years.

Survived by his children Nicola J. Valente (Cheryl) and Marlene Valente; two grandsons, Nicola J. Jr. (Pauline) and Daniel J. Valente (Grace); four great grandchildren, Daniel J. Jr. and Samuel J. Valente, Isabella M. and Antonia M. Valente. Also survived by his sister, Mrs. Edward Prince “Peggy”, and many nephews and nieces.

Pre-deceased by his brothers, Salvatore, Peter, Angelo, Anthony and John Valente; sisters, Mrs. Mary Rogers, Mrs. Rose Haggerty, Mrs. Anna Mangano.

He enjoyed working in his garage, crossword puzzles, chopping firewood, mowing his lawn, and snow blowing his and his neighbor’s driveways. He also enjoyed his great grandchildren teaching him to play the latest computer games.

We will miss his ever-sharp mind, wonderful stories of his long life and military years, and his colorful analysis of current events.

A period of visitation will be held from 9am to10am Monday, Jan 14th at St. Mary’s Church, 10 Lodge St., Albany, NY, where his funeral mass will follow at 10am.

Interment to follow.
